Potty Training: Conquering 5 Common Potty Problems

Flush away the 5 biggest potty predicaments.
Patience, Perseverance, and a Positive Attitude

Potty training my first was a breeze. My daughter caught a glimpse of the Cinderella underpants in the store and decided that it was time for her to use the potty like a big girl. Within about six weeks, she was trained and sporting her princess undies every day. So five years later, when it was time to potty train my second daughter, I expected the same quick turnaround. But I was in for a big surprise, as my younger one had no interest in fancy underwear -- or anything else connected with potty training for that matter. Six months after starting her potty training, I wasn't confident that she had completely caught on.

My two daughters gave me two totally different training experiences. And as I quickly learned, potty training is indeed different for everyone. But the result was the same: Both my kids learned to use the potty. In time, your child will too. With patience, perseverance, and a positive attitude, you can potty train your child. That's not to say there won't be problems along the way. In fact, more than 80 percent of children experience setbacks during toilet training, according to Elizabeth Pantley, author of The No-Cry Potty Training Solution (McGraw-Hill). So here's a guide to get you past some common pitfalls.

ADVISE!!!I have a 18 months old daughter who is well potty trained at home and when we go out. The issue i have is with the daycare center since the class is not equipped for it.Her daycare says the begin potty training at the 2 year old class or should i wait. On weekends she is on panties through out the day unless she is taking a nap or at night what would you advise i do. Am i confusing her since sometimes she wonders by refusing to be on daipers in the morning.

Help!!! My son is almost 3 1/2, and is not interested in being totally potty trained. He will tell us he needs to pee only when he's naked and he won't go #2 in the potty. We've tried stickers, toys and letting him pick new underwear, but he just doesn't care. Do we just wait or is there something else we can do??

my son is 3 1/2 and has been potty trained for almost a year. He was doing great until about 2 weeks ago, when he started doing #2 in his pants. We have tried to get him back on track. Is it possible that after all this time he can't feel it or is he just to busy to stop and go.

Give them time. Having a mess in their pants on a regular basis usually is enough to get them to want to use the toilet! One of our sons wasn't #2 trained till he was almost three. But when you look back, it won't matter if they were 18 months or 3 1/2 when it happened. We just get anxious to be done with those dirty diapers!
