Hockey is a contact sport, so before your child hits the rink, you'll need to get him some protective gear. Along with sturdy hockey skates, he'll require a stick, pads, shin guards, gloves, mouth guard, and a helmet (preferably one with a cage or shield to protect his face). If he's a goalie, he'll also need special blocker or catcher gloves to help him stop oncoming pucks, as well as padded chest and arm protectors. In the off-season he can practice his moves playing street hockey on in-line skates, or by shooting pucks at home into a goal or net.
