Kyosho Kyosho Warbird F4U Corsair EP/GP Building Kit

Considered one of the most capable fight/bomber during the latter half of WWII, the distinctive, inverse gull-wing F4U-1 Corsair earned its place as one of the most feared fighters in history with an 11-to-1 kill ratio. Used extensively by ...both the Marines and later the Navy, the Corsair was first activated in 1943 at the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in Southern California and remained in production until 1953 ? the longest production run of any US piston engine fighter. An 18-cylinder Pratt & Whitney engine producing over 2000 horsepower, coupled with a 3-bladed prop over 13 feet in diameter, propelled the Corsair to speeds in excess of 550 mph. This particular model is patterned after the #31 Navy VF-17 "Jolly Rogers" Squadron, or the "Fighting Seventeen," flown by Wilbert "Beads" Popp. The squadron was formed in Norfolk, VA in Jan. 1943 and quickly became known as a bunch of hell-raisers, with one pilot in the group running a truck off the road in an inverted low-level fly-by on a local roadway and another who engaged an Army pilot flying a P51 in a "dogfight" over a residential neighborhood in Norfolk. The squadron was eventually stationed on a land base on the Solomon Islands, where the Jolly Rogers amassed an impressive record of 156 enemy kills, the sinking of five ships and a crew that included 12 aces ? more than any other naval unit. Simply stated, it was one of the most versatile and feared aircraft in WWII and the Jolly Rogers were one of the most feared squadrons of the war and now their history is immortalized in a nearly six-foot wide .90 size EP/GP model from Kyosho. Like no other ? The new SQS 90-size Corsair is built to the highest standards, resulting in a much higher quality product than many of the cheaper look-alike models on the market. Discriminating pilots around the world know that Kyosho represents a higher level of quality and better value for the money and the Corsair is built to meet those high expectations! Read More
