Delivery of the original Superliner 1 cars began in 1979 with the first cars operating on short runs originating in Seattle and Ch...icago. As more cars arrived, entire Superliner train sets replaced trains on existing Western routes. The height of a Superliner generally precludes its operating in the Northeast because of tunnel clearance concerns. The Coaches are the backbone of any passenger train, providing the majority of seating capacity on a train. Read More

The GG1, one of the PRR's most famous and recognizable locomotives, is also one of the most curiously designed. Technically two lo...comotives under one shell (a "G" class locomotive is a 4-6-0 by PRR specification, therefore the GG1 was two "G" locomotives in a 4-6-0:0-6-4 arrangement) - this added up to a 4.6k horsepower locomotive that was staggeringly powerful, even by today's standards. Designed in the 20's, built in 30's and not retired until the 80's, the GG1 had an incredible lifespan and survives today as a testament to its time in both its unique Loewy-design and overwhelming performance. The Tuscan Red five-stripe paint scheme was, for all intents and purposes, exactly the same as the more common Brunswick green "Modified Loewy" paint scheme, though obviously substituting a car-matching Tuscan red color for the darker Green paint. This paint scheme was introduced in 1952 and in the end was worn by 10 of the GG1s in service on the PRR. Read More

Factory Direct - Usually Ships in 2-3 Business Days. The headliner of GE's 1993 freight locomotive line was the 6 motor, 4400hp C44...-9W "Dash 9." Slightly longer than its predecessors at 73 feet, 2 inches, the C44-9W used a new HiAd, bolsterless low-weight truck that was designed for better grip on the rails no matter the weather. A split cooling system lowered engine temperatures and fuel consumption as well, granting these locomotives a longer operation life and lower overhead costs. The Chicago & North Western railroad, long since incorporated into the Union Pacific, lives on to this day in the form of C44-9W #8646 and #8701, the last surviving locomotives still to bear their original C&NW colors. These two locomotives are a favorite of C&NW followers, and Kato is proud to announce their production in both N and HO Scales in a limited run to pay homage to these long-lasting locomotives. This locomotive features: DCC friendly mechanism, Directional headlights with illuminated ditchlights and numberboards, Powerful five pole motor with all wheel electrical pickup and blackened wheels, and Drop in DCC compatible with the Digitrax DN163K1B or Train Control Systems K1D4. 176-5401N E5A Chicago Burlington & Quincy #9910A "Silver Speed"The EMD E5 has a distinctive raised angular radiator grill arrangem...ent on the roof that was specific for that locomotive.A special feature of the new Kato EMD E5A is that the front coupler cowling can be removed on both the skirted and un-skirted units in order to mount a Kato magnetic knuckle coupler - this allows modelers to double head these locomotives when pulling longer trains such as the California Zephyr!Another point of interest is that all E5's were custom built with stainless steel corrugated sides so as to match the CB&Q's stainless cars; a feature that gives these locomotives a noticeable shine !
