The GG1, one of the PRR's most famous and recognizable locomotives, is also one of the most curiously designed. Technically two lo...comotives under one shell (a "G" class locomotive is a 4-6-0 by PRR specification, therefore the GG1 was two "G" locomotives in a 4-6-0:0-6-4 arrangement) - this added up to a 4.6k horsepower locomotive that was staggeringly powerful, even by today's standards. Designed in the 20's, built in 30's and not retired until the 80's, the GG1 had an incredible lifespan and survives today as a testament to its time in both its unique Loewy-design and overwhelming performance. The Tuscan Red five-stripe paint scheme was, for all intents and purposes, exactly the same as the more common Brunswick green "Modified Loewy" paint scheme, though obviously substituting a car-matching Tuscan red color for the darker Green paint. This paint scheme was introduced in 1952 and in the end was worn by 10 of the GG1s in service on the PRR. Read More

Factory Direct - Usually Ships in 2-3 Business Days. The headliner of GE's 1993 freight locomotive line was the 6 motor, 4400hp C44...-9W "Dash 9." Slightly longer than its predecessors at 73 feet, 2 inches, the C44-9W used a new HiAd, bolsterless low-weight truck that was designed for better grip on the rails no matter the weather. A split cooling system lowered engine temperatures and fuel consumption as well, granting these locomotives a longer operation life and lower overhead costs. The Chicago & North Western railroad, long since incorporated into the Union Pacific, lives on to this day in the form of C44-9W #8646 and #8701, the last surviving locomotives still to bear their original C&NW colors. These two locomotives are a favorite of C&NW followers, and Kato is proud to announce their production in both N and HO Scales in a limited run to pay homage to these long-lasting locomotives. This locomotive features: DCC friendly mechanism, Directional headlights with illuminated ditchlights and numberboards, Powerful five pole motor with all wheel electrical pickup and blackened wheels, and Drop in DCC compatible with the Digitrax DN163K1B or Train Control Systems K1D4. Over 400 F40PH locomotives have been manufactured by EMD in various configurations. To support passenger service, the F40PH is equipped with a secondary electrical generator referred to as the head end generator (or HEP, for Head End Power).
