In 1997, Jed Smith founded Drugstore.com, an Internet retailer that specializes in health- and beauty-care products. Rite Aid partnered with Drugstore.com in 1999, after which Drugstore.com customers could pick up prescriptions at Rite Aid stores and Drugstore.com could sell Rite
Aid products and vitamins from GNC. Drugstore.com offers more than 75,000 different products, including all types of personal-care and beauty products, household goods, medicine, and vitamins.
Along with the Drugstore.com website, the company also operates Beauty.com and VisionDirect.com. In 2011, Walgreens acquired Drugstore.com for $409 million.
Drugstore.com also makes shopping a cinch with its Your List tool, which helps you log previous purchases and favorite items. Your List suggests similar items if something you regularly buy has been discontinued, emails you if a product on Your List goes on sale, and lets you explore customer reviews.
