Founded by Thomas Harman in 2006, and headquartered in Redwood City, California, Balsam Hill makes artificial Christmas trees and seasonal decorations. With a brother-in-law allergic to natural trees, Harman set out to find an artificial tree that looked realistic; after coming u
p short, he decided to take matters into his own hands. He hired a team of designers to study natural trees and asked them to create a line of artificial conifers that were just as lush and earthy as the real beauties.
In addition to artificial Christmas trees, Balsam Hill makes wreaths and garlands, Christmas decorations, and home decor. The Ducks in a Row set consists of a mother duck and her three ducklings, all painted in royal colors -- such as emerald and rich purple and red -- and made of luxuriously textured fabrics and trimmed with beaded gold, to lend sparkle as they hang under the light of the tree. In the same lavish color palette, the Dancing Shoes ornaments recall the Victorian era.
Christmas is not the only season Balsam Hill celebrates: The Napa Valley Lavender Wreath is more of a springtime accent, with its pops of violet and earthy green colors. It's made of dried lavender, sage, eucalyptus, and larkspur, and embellished with a purple ribbon.
