When Heartburn Persists

Try to combat heartburn with changes in diet and sleep before you turn to medicines.

Heartburn can become more and more of a problem as your pregnancy progresses. Antacids are thought to be safe during pregnancy, although sodium bicarbonate should be avoided because of its high sodium content. If your heartburn persists despite diet, sleep modifications, and antacids, your doctor may recommend other medications.
