As your blood flow continues to increase and your body's estrogen and progesterone levels soar, the tissues in your vaginal area may become pumped up into a permanent state of sexual arousal. The color of your engorged labia will change as well, from a pale pink and red to a bluish purple; this is another result of the blood rush to all parts of your body. On the labia, you may also notice new bluish veins, which increase if you stand or sit for a long time. Not to worry--these are just like the varicose veins in your legs.
Sometimes this new pressure on your genitals, along with increased vaginal lubrication, puts you in a state of constant desire during your 2nd trimester. You may find yourself wanting to make love with your partner or masturbate many more times a week than you ever have before. Most women don't find that this is a bad thing. However, some women find that their partners are taken aback by this new lustfulness, especially if they are accustomed to initiating sex. Your partner may also be put off or nervous if your genitals look and feel different. That's why, as your body continues to change, it is important for you both to lay your cards on the table and be honest about your ever-shifting physical and emotional needs.
