Pop Your Prenatal Vitamin Daily

Taking it will help ensure that you get the balance of nutrients your baby needs, like folic acid and vitamin B12 to make red blood cells, vitamin C to produce collagen, vitamin D for bone building, and zinc for brain development. If your vitamin upsets your stomach, don't just ditch it: Try taking it with a meal, or talk to your doctor about switching brands.

The most awesome prenatal vitamins:Garden of Life's Vitamin Code Raw Prenatal-NEVER got sick with them-they even have ginger in them for nausea, and the vitamins are in a form that can be easily digested and utilized. It also includes probiotic immune system support for two and raw iron that is easy on the stomach! I LOVE IT!!!!!

watch out for the prenatal vitamins!!! there is a risk of them causing kidney or other types of "stones". just wanted to share =) I am currently 10 weeks with my 3rd child and i have NEVER taken prenatal vitamins. for my first 2 pregnancies i took gummy childrens vitamins with extra iron (told by my doc) and a folic acid. i have upgraded to adult gummies this pregnancy lol. as long as you are eating right and hydrating, and your doc says its ok, multi vitamins are fine =)

Be careful taking extra iron supplements before talking to a doctor, to avoid iron overdose (plus constipation!!). Doctor will test your blood to tell you if it's needed!! Bost your diet with spinach, spirulina, and proteins. Also, Vitamin C helps iron absorption, so stock on citrus!! :-)

If your prenatal vitamins upset your stomach, try taking Melaleuca's brand of prenatal vitamins. They are a little pricy but ive never had a problem taking them like i have with the doctor prescribed ones and my doctor okayed them.

A regular women's Daily vitamin works just fine. Children's vitamins are just as effective, just make sure you read the instructions for the correct dosage. As for Folic Acid, it wouldn't be upsetting your stomach. Yes, not taking a vitamin will affect the fetus. The main reason for taking vitamins/folic acid is to lower the chances of birth defects, especially Spina Bifida. The Iron is probably what's upsetting your stomach.

to lilleo86 ..make healthy food choices so that every bite counts nutritionally and are not fat/sugar/ salt laden. Just keep in mind that being pregnant does not give us carte blanche to eat whatever we want. In the same token, it is never wise to diet while pregnant either since a growing baby needs the nutrition. You should only ideally gain 2-5lbs in your first trimester and a pound a week thereafter. A good range is a total weight gain of 25-30lbs for the entire pregnancy.

evelynsouthern...They usually not take fish oil pills cause of the mercury levels...although they do have pills where the outside is algae so theres not as much if any mercury...but if youre wanting to take fish oils because of the omega fatty acids..like DHA and EPA ..they have prenatal vitamins that contain both of these and all the other vitamins you need ...I have some right now..They are at Wal Mart..Good luck

I'm taking Prefera-OB. It has not only a DHA supplement but also "hemi iron". It doesn't cause constipation or need vitamin C to be absorbed. My first prescrip. was Citra Natal 95 w/ 95 mg of iron...serious constipation! 18 mg of iron is 100% of the RDA for a regular vit. C/N 95 had 95 mg! I switched to Prefera-OB (about 37 mg hemi iron)and began taking my pills at bedtime, no more need for stool softener or extra fiber and also my nausea went away.
