Pregnancy Exercise Program

Q: I'm the mother of a very active 2-year-old boy, and I'm 7 months pregnant. How much running around is it safe for me to do with my son? Should I stop as soon as I start to feel tired or winded?

A: I would certainly have this discussion with your doctor, but try to see if you can build your stamina by taking some "mom time" and walk the neighborhood or local park. Do it at a brisk pace to elevate your heart rate and condition your heart and lungs. Carrying the extra weight of your baby is taxing, but exercising (with your doctor's permission) while you're pregnant can actually help shorten your recovery time so you can get back to yourself and run around twice as much with your newborn! But do think about adding some walking to your day. It could really help. Best of luck to you!
