Question

Is there anything that can be done to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy?

Answer

The tendency for stretch marks is actually inherited. Some of us have weaker collagen; therefore, we form stretch marks during pregnancy. There is nothing that we can do to prevent them, despite what some beauty product manufacturers say. Lotions and cocoa butter can make the skin smoother and less irritated, but they will not prevent stretch marks. Fair-skinned women with lots of red tone in their skin tend to get more stretch marks than darker-skinned women.

Just remember that stretch marks fade somewhat after pregnancy -- turning into fine silvery medals of motherhood.
