What causes vaginal pain in pregnancy?

What you may be experiencing: Late in pregnancy, you may feel pain inside the vagina- usually a sharp, piercing pain that comes and goes suddenly. What you're feeling, most likely, is your cervix dilating, or opening, as it prepares for the passage of your baby. Dilation can take place several weeks or just hours before labor begins. Normally, it's not cause for concern, but you should tell your healthcare provider about it. If the pain occurs in your lower abdomen, call your practitioner immediately.

I'm glad I found this. I'm 38 weeks and I've been having sharp vaginal pain that comes and goes. This is my first baby so I don't know if any of this is normal or a sign of labor, but it's nice to hear that it's just my body preparing for birth and my cervix may be dilating.

I have constant vaginal and pelvic pain and I am 35 weeks. I can't sleep at night and when I try to sleep on either of my sides they get numb or the pain is more intense. I sleep on my back and I know that's a no..no.. but its the best way for me to get any rest.

I'm so glad to have found this. I'm 34 wks, first baby and my baby turned into a head down position about 2 wks ago which is when this vaginal pain started. Last night I did try the warm bath and it helped for as long as I was in the bath, when I came out the pain was the same. I find that the best and most relief I get is when I'm sleeping with a pillow in my lower back with my legs slightly open.

I'm 32 weeks pregnant, and I have vaginal pain as well. Sometimes it's sharp, sometimes it's an achy feeling. My mom tells me it's my body stretching and preparing for birth. Your's and my pain could be dialation, but I don't think you have anything to worry about, unless you have severe pain or blood, or your water breaks. If anything, ask your doctor. I hope this helps! :)
