Many couples rely on ovulation predictor kits, or OPKs, to identify when the woman is most fertile. OPKs can detect a surge in the production of luteinizing hormone (LH), which occurs roughly 36 hours before ovulation. By timing intercourse shortly after the LH surge, you can increase your odds of bringing sperm and egg together at the time when conception is most likely to occur.
Sounds easy, right? In a perfect world, OPKs would infallibly detect ovulation, and ovulation would inevitably lead to pregnancy. The reality is more complicated, so be sure to consider the pros and cons of OPKs before trusting your fertility exclusively to this method.

5/3/2010 08:55:38 PM Report AbuseIve used OPK testing for three months now. Yes, they can be hard to read as far as the line darkness ad if thats a positive or a negative but after a while you do get the hang of what you are looking for so all those out there - dont give up. I have paid very close attention to the lines and sigs but this month my period was april 8-13, spotted on the 14th.. I tested with my opk this am and i had a false + -.. then tested ths afternoon after holding off on bathroo breaks.I got double line so...
4/16/2010 11:32:21 AM Report AbuseMy question is this, if I buy the OPK and I know that I have a 3 day window for attempting to get pregnant, what day should I do it on. I know that I cant do it everyday, so should I do it every other day or what? This is very confusing to me.
3/26/2010 06:06:56 AM Report AbuseI am using OPK's also but bought the digital version- much easier to read. You get a happy face if it's positive and a blank circle for negative. I just got my first positive Dec 17/09 so we'll wait and see if 2010 brings us a blessing...good luck to all those TTC.
12/27/2009 02:48:41 PM Report AbuseI use them. When I am close to ovulating I get two very dark lines. It's clear as day I will be ovulating withing 24-48 hours however, I have some other issues that have been taking place and pregnancy hasnt happened for us yet but I still hold out hope.
11/14/2009 10:26:10 AM Report AbuseIf the line is light it is a negative result, but ovulation will occur soon.
11/4/2009 01:40:40 PM Report Abusecont...Testing depends on your length of cycle to. Mine ranges anywhere from 27 days to 38 days. I used one last month and I didnt get the lh surge until day 17, 18, and 19. Everywhere that you read says you ovluate usually around 12-16 days but mine was longer. So hang in there and you'll eventually get that darker pink line.
11/1/2009 08:58:33 PM Report AbuseI have used First Response OPK's twice now. With these, depending on when you start, there will be no line or a faint line, this means there is no lh surge. When the two lines are the same color that's when the surge is.
11/1/2009 08:58:15 PM Report AbuseI just started using the OPKs this month and I had a very light line on Sunday and I wondered if it would get darker like the instructions said or it was like a pregnancy test. With the one line being lighter.
10/27/2009 10:42:53 AM Report Abusehii have used the OPKs and i have noticed that when i ovulate the line that appear is verry light i was wondering if anyone else has had that happened to them. Verry concerned Ms.B
