Glittery wings give some bite to this batty ensemble.
What you need: White bodysuit, white pilot cap, Rit fabric dye (black), green feather boa, scissors, 1/2 yard green glitter felt, 1/4 yard black faux fur, glue gun, pencil, needle, thread, one 13 1/2 x 22 1/2 inch sheet of plastic needlepoint canvas, three yards black single-fold twill, three yards twill cord, two sticky-back Velcro tabs
To make body: Follow package instructions to dye bodysuit and pilot cap black. Stitch a length of green feather boa down center of bodysuit.
To make cap: Enlarge ear pattern as needed. Trace two ears on green felt and two on black faux fur. Cut out all four pieces. With right sides facing each other, sew together one green and one black ear piece using a 1/4-inch seam allowance and leaving a 1 1/2-inch opening in the center of ear bottom. Repeat. Turn each ear inside out, and sew opening closed using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Stitch ears to cap.
To make wings: Enlarge wing pattern as needed. Trace twice onto green felt and cut out. Trace pattern once onto plastic canvas and cut out. Glue green felt to both sides of plastic canvas. Glue strips of twill cord to resemble veins on the wings. Glue a trim of black single-fold twill to the edges of wings. Cut two 1-inch slits, about 2 inches apart, in the center back of the wings. Attach Velcro tabs by sewing to center back of the bodysuit. To attach wings, slip the Velcro through the slits, after your child has the bodysuit on, and fasten.Related Links:
