Nancy O'Dell Chats with Christina Applegate

Nancy O'Dell: How has motherhood changed you?
Christina Applegate: I know what it means to love somebody, and that's something that you just don't know your whole life.

But you love your fella, Martyn, of course?
I do, but he knows that I love her more! [laughs] And it's the same for him, so we've had that discussion about how we do love each other and it's okay, but we do love her more! It's just the way it is. It's a different kind of love. It's bigger. It's more embracing. It's so unconditional.

You call your baby girl your new beginning. How so?
She's my purpose. I've been doing a lot of things for many years. I do some of them well, and I fail at other things. None of it matters. You know when you look at her... that's the thing I've contributed to this world. That's the best thing I could possibly do, and so for that, she's my beginning.

What is the best piece of parenting advice that anybody has given you?
There's so much [baby gear] to get! I think... to buy a NoseFrida!

What is that?
The thing that you use to suck the stuff out of their nose. It's called a NoseFrida. It's got a long [tube] and you do it with your mouth.

You do it with your mouth?! [laughs] I just used the hand-squeeze nose suctioner.
Well, there's a stopper. It doesn't go in your mouth. But it's so much more effective. I mean I always had that thing [squeeze suctioner] in there trying to get it out, and it never worked. But this one is magic!

Your show is all about juggling career and motherhood. Can you actually find that balance?
I don't think there's ever really a balance. Unfortunately, I think something will suffer a little bit because of it. I'm finding it's never my baby because I'll give her 120 percent.
