What You'll Need:

Newspaper, large plastic bottle, scoop or large spoon, potting mix (we used Miracle-Gro Organic Choice Potting Mix, available at lowes.com), spray bottle filled with water, seeds, pebbles, tape, cork or drain plug

Make It:

  1. Form a cone out of newspaper and place it at the mouth of the bottle. Scoop in a 3" to 4" layer of potting mix.
  2. Spray with a few squirts of water, then drop in two or three seeds. (Try lima beans, pole beans, and wheat grass for rapid growth). Add a sprinkle of soil, a few more squirts of water, and top with a thin layer of pebbles. (These will allow you to water the plant without the soil shifting around.)
  3. Cap the bottle with a cork or a drain plug and place in a sunny spot. Add water when the soil appears dry (usually every few days).
