Eating plans that encourage you to eat lots of meat and to avoid most carbohydrates are no good for you or your baby. Carbohydrates are an essential part of your diet, providing energy quickly and efficiently. If you give up carbohydrates you'll be cutting out many high-fiber, nutrient-packed foods.
High-carbohydrate foods worth choosing include fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grain breads, pasta, and cereals. Pass up cake, white bread, soda, and other high-carbohydrate foods that offer nothing but empty calories.
