Scary & Weird Dreams

Pregnancy Sex Tips: What's Up With Your Sex Dreams?
Pregnancy Sex Tips: What's Up With Your Sex Dreams?

Pregnancy dreams are often like weird movies in living, breathing, scary colors. They may be the strangest dreams you've ever had. Wacky imagery in dreams -- talking kittens, car crashes, sex with the next-door neighbor -- is extremely common when you're pregnant. A combination of hormones and disrupted sleep forces you to spend more time in lighter, dreamy REM sleep than in deeper, dreamless states. And waking more often means you're more likely to remember your dreams.

In the 1st trimester, visions of baby animals and other small creatures (especially aquatic ones) are common, perhaps because you'll soon be required to take care of someone small and fragile. Erotic dreams about former lovers, movie stars, and even neighbors are also common because, it's theorized, you're approaching a major life transition that will forever close doors to the past.

Many pregnancy dreams are filled with terrible images. You might dream about giving birth to a baby without hands or wake up feeling certain that you tossed your newborn off a moving train. These images are natural extensions of the anxious feelings you may have during the day about whether your baby will be born healthy and whether you?ll be a good mom. If you wake up feeling disgusted by a dream of wearing a tent for a dress or bleeding in public, you may be insecure about your changing body.
