Unstuffing a Stuffy Nose

You can gently clear your newborn's nose with some saline solution and a bulb syringe, says Michael Rothschild, M.D., director of pediatric otolaryngology at Mt. Sinai Hospital, in New York City. Put a few drops of the solution into one nostril at a time. Use a syringe that has a rounded, acorn-shaped tip. Put the syringe gently into the nostril, and gently suction out the mucus. A humidifier can help, too, but it must be kept clean to prevent fungus from growing. Or you can take your baby into a bathroom with the shower turned on hot. Warning: Never use a decongestant without a doctor's okay.
