Beginner Pureed Single Food

Baby's Pureed Peaches This recipe is for fresh peaches. However, frozen ones would work just as well. If you cannot get fresh or frozen, canned may be used. Buy them in light syrup and rinse off the syrup. The canned ones are soft enough just to puree without cooking.

Baby's First Applesauce It's not just for babies. An unscientific side-by-side comparison showed this homemade version of applesauce preferred 100 percent over the leading national brand by dads and 4-year-olds.

Pear Baby Food This can be for the whole family, not just the baby. Make a larger batch. Remove the baby's portion. Add a little butter and a dash of cinnamon or ginger for the rest of the family's sauce. Serve as change from applesauce.

Baby's Bananas Use ripe bananas for this recipe. The ripe bananas will be sweeter and will mash better. This should not be made more than half an hour before it is eaten, as it discolors.

Baby's First Carrots Babies have their own likes and dislikes. Depending on your own child, you can add cooking water to make these carrots a thinner consistency, or rice cereal to make them thicker.

Pureed Green Beans While available almost year-round, green beans will be most beautiful and inexpensive early summer through early August. Make sure your beans are very tender after cooking and do not forget to save your cooking water. This is used to thin the baby food.

Pureed Peas This recipe calls for frozen peas. Canned peas are not suggested, because of their sodium content.

Acorn Squash Puree Pureed squash is a good vegetable to introduce to your baby when she's 6 to 8 months old. If you like, roast both halves of the squash and serve the other half for dinner.

Baby's Sweet Potatoes Pureed sweet potato is an excellent first food for your baby. Like carrots, it is a super source of vitamin A. This baby food can be increased to feed the rest of the family, too. Remove baby's portion and add butter, milk, and a little maple syrup.
