get out in the yard and kick around a soccer ball, or do some weeding in the garden! If it's cold outside, we like baking.

getting rid of cable. We have internet, therefore we can still get our news & weather. Love that our kids aren't subjected to all the advertising & potty humor. We listen to a lot of radio - dance party every morning at our house! Family time & exercise!!

My family cut down on our TV time by... Cutting off our cable! We have also saved about $80 a month by doing so! Not bad at all. At first, it was weird not to having TV to turn to when we're bored but we have found more fun and productive ways to spend our time and we spend it together as a family. :) My son and I are doing more activities together like crafts, cooking together, and more reading time! I wish I could've done it sooner!

kicking the TV out of our house! It was hard at first but it was so worth it! Not only did my kids get more active, use their imaginations more, and learn to play and share together better - I got more creative with my parenting. It forced me to come up with crafts and activities that I would have otherwise never done.

Moving. We had no TV for 3 weeks prior to move and found no reason to turn it back on as much. But with 3 kids under five, we still use it at making dinner time.

focusing more on music. After discovering the TV was on mostly for background noise, we've pulled the CD collection out and let our 2 year old choose CD's. He LOVES Johnny Cash, Bob Marley and Burl Ives. Quite a mix!

We have designated "nights" that work well for our family. Tuesday nights is "no TV/computer" night. The tv isn't allowed to be turned on at all (same with the computer) This allows us to get stuff done around the house such as cleaning, laundry, yard work, baking, playing games and spending time going for a walk as a family.

By turning off the TV :) And, by providing other activities...how about a family story time...and then a simple craft project that ties in with the theme of the book. Or maybe take a walk..and map out your street on a piece of paper as you walk, making a note of interesting landmarks. Or bake some bread or cookies. Or enlist the help of your child/children in planning/preparing lunch or dinner. TV...we could probably live without it...and maybe should most of the time.
