Follow these tips for finding the right walking shoe.
Shoe In The key to feeling great throughout your walk is finding a shoe that fits right. For lacing up in the perfect sneaker, follow these five rules from Stephen M. Pribut, DPM, a podiatrist in Washington, D.C.
- Have your feet measured each time you buy a new pair of shoes. Your size changes as you age.
- Stick with a shoe designed specifically for either walking or running. You can find a good sneaker for less than $100.
- For each pair you try on, walk briskly in the store for 10 minutes to be sure they're comfortable.
- Bring the same socks you will wear for your walking workouts to the store for trying on new sneaks. And remember that most people typically need sneakers a half-size bigger than their dress shoes.
- If you have a low arch, look for a stability shoe that helps control how your foot lands. High arches call for more shock absorption -- and require a more cushioned shoe.
