An Author In The Making
By: Terri Gross, Commack, New York | Found in: Teachable Moments

When my now-8-year-old son was younger, I wanted to help him develop an interest in reading. So I started writing books with him. Whenever he told me a story, I would write it down. Sometimes his stories were only a few sentences long; other times, they were quite detailed. The process really helped boost his creativity and language development, and as he got older, he started illustrating his stories too. He loves rereading his early books and is still writing stories.
