In the January Issue of American Baby magazine, we asked readers which Olympic figure skater most recently gave birth to her second baby: Ekaterina Gordeeva, Nancy Kerrigan, Tara Lipinski, or Kristi Yamaguchi.
The star of the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, France, Kristi Yamaguchi takes the prize for this one -- she had baby number two -- another girl -- in November 2005. Emma Yoshiko is the second child for the gold-medal winner and husband Bret Hedican, a defenseman for the Carolina Hurricanes. The two had a baby girl, Keara Kiyomi, in 2003.
Family is key for Yamaguchi, who recently produced a new skating show, "Kristi Yamaguchi Friends and Family." All of the performers (including Kerrigan and singer Kenny Rogers) recently had children; the show was dedicated to them.
Ekaterina Gordeeva made headlines in 1988 when she and partner (and later husband) Sergei Grinkov took home the gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary, Canada. The couple had a daughter together -- Daria Sergeevna -- in 1992, and went on to win the gold again at the Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, in 1994. Tragically in 1995, Grinkov died of a heart attack while preparing for an upcoming skating performance.
Now married to skater Ilia Kulik, Gordeeva had a second daughter, Elizaveta, in 2002.
Silver Medalist Nancy Kerrigan had a stellar year in 1996, just two years after her Olympic win in Lillehammer; in December, her son Matthew Eric was born. Now in grade school, Matthew -- whose name means "gift of the Lord" -- enjoys hitting the ice with his mom and isn't bothered by her tour schedule. "At one point, we lived on a tour bus for a month, and he loved sleeping on a bunk as we traveled," Nancy told child.com. "He thought it was the coolest thing."
Tara Lipinski, who won the gold medal at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan, does not currently have any children.
