Wake up and smell the roses! Katie Holmes, Geri Halliwell, Jude Law, and Jamie Oliver all chose a floral name for their children!
A Rose by Any Other Name
Katie Holmes, born Kate Noelle Holmes, known for her role in Dawson's Creek, gave birth on April 18, 2006, to daughter, Suri. She and Tom Cruise chose for their bundle of joy the name Suri, which is Persian for "rose." Holmes has starred in such movies as The Ice Storm, Pieces of April, and Thank You for Smoking.
Internationally Protected Beauty
Ginger Spice, also known as Geri Halliwell, gave birth in London on May 14, 2006, to daughter Bluebell Madonna. She decided on the name Bluebell because she was inspired by the springtime flowers (which are globally threatened for extinction). Geraldine Estelle Halliwell, or Geri, is a former member of the pop group The Spice Girls. After leaving the Spice Girls she released three albums, most recently Passion.
Jude Law, a British actor known for his roles in Cold Mountain and The Talented Mr. Ripley, welcomed, with former wife Sadie Frost, a daughter on October 25, 2000. They chose for their daughter the Greek name Iris, which actually means "rainbow.' Law and Frost have two other children, sons Rafferty and Rudy. Law has appeared in other films such as Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and Closer.
A Colorful Bouquet
Jamie Oliver, also known as The Naked Chef, is a British celebrity chef who has two daughters with wife Juliette. Both girls have flowery first names: their first, Poppy Honey, was born in March 2002; second daughter Daisy Boo was born in April 2003. Poppy is Latin for "from the flower," and Daisy is Old English for "daisy flower." Oliver has set up a series of charity restaurants under the name Fifteen, which allow him to train 15 disadvantaged youths to work in the hospitality industry. He was named to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in July 2003 by Queen Elizabeth.
