Celeb Ricki Lake's Home Birth

In the December 2004 issue of American Baby magazine, we asked you which celebrity delivered in her own bathtub: Kate Hudson, Debra Messing, Denise Richards, or Ricki Lake.

Talk show host Ricki Lake gave birth in her family's New York City bathtub on June 18, 2001, to a son, Owen Tyler. Lake's second child weighed in at 8 pounds, 7 ounces.

Also in attendance at the water birth were Lake's husband, Rob Sussman, two doulas, and a certified nurse-midwife.

Explaining her decision to have her child at home, Lake said, "I wanted to 'give birth' as opposed to 'being delivered,' and the best way for me to do that was at home with the guidance of a professional midwife."
