At this age, backpacks aren't about carrying lots of books and binders. Select a small bag with enough room for lunch, odds and ends, and perhaps a lovey from home. And go cute: Your kid won't be into bunny backpacks forever.

I am a mom of 3 girls and one backpack that you did not include in the best ones is The Go Baggie backpacks. I got them for my girls and what makes it unique is that you can hang it in the back seat of the car so keeps them entertained. Their website is www.gobaggie.com

I know a lot of parents are concerned about whether their child's things are made in the US or in another country where regulations may not be up to snuff. If you're interested check out the Back to School Guide at the Made in the USA Foundation website. Madeusafdn.org Its a free guide, with links and pics, with tons of awesome finds for your kids.

We should not be seeking material gifts for our children especially at this age. A bag is only a bag, if they need a bag its for purpose and not for looks. By seeking good looking things for your children you will surely prep them to be materialistic. We know where that gets us. I came across this www.grassapplekids.com/ an educational journal where students come to the rescue to save the next generation. A lot has changed since you went to school.

As a preschool teacher, I feel the need to point out that tiny backpacks are NOT at all suitable for preschoolers in elementary schools. My students bring home art projects daily that get ruined when we have to fold them to fit in tiny backpacks. If your child's backpack is not big enough to hold everything, you risk your belongings getting lost and your child's work being ruined.

All these bags are great. I don't see my favorite one though. My daughter loves her penquin kids backpack from www.dabbawallabags.com. It is durable, washable and so cute. If you have a toddler or preschooler these are the perfect size for the little kids in your life.
