In a world where practically every beach resort promises its guests something to do with the kids, it's hard to know which ones live up to their own hype. So you don't get burned on your next vacation, Parents asked family travel agents and tourism boards to nominate resorts in the United States and the Caribbean that are right on the beach but light on the credit card. We also made sure they have tons of family activities but some adults-only stuff as well. (After all, this is your vacation too!) For each of their 75 picks, we gathered detailed info about their shoreline, the pools, kids' program, restaurants, rooms, and other important info. Our ten winners are water wonderlands, plus each offers a terrific drop-off kids' camp and will help you schedule babysitting (even for infants) if you want some alone or couple time. With rates no higher than $275 a night for a room that sleeps two adults and two small kids, or $475 for an all-inclusive for a family of 4, you might even have money left in your vacation fund.

The best value for family vacations is in vacation beach rentals. We found this awesome rental for our family: http://www.vrbo.com/348781. We loved the Pawleys area; great shopping, restaurants and scenic spots. The kids loved our rental's play yard when we weren't at the nearby beach. The house only cost a $40 day pp in the high season. There was room for additional friends and family so more the merrier. It allowed our dog!

I am VERY disappointed with this article. In the introduction you say "you might even have vacation money leftover." I agree that some of the locations sound magnificent, but none of them are driveable for my family. And many rates START at $170-$240 per night---that gets you the basic room with two double beds. After calculating airfare, plus other non-room related expenses (like food!) these all begin to look like "once in a lifetime, crazy expensive" trips. Reality check, please!

I was disappointed. It was super expensive. We spent at least $70 every morning on breakfast!! The hotel hosted big conventions which meant a lot of suits and ties in the lobby while we were in bathing suits and tank tops. The gift shop in the hotel was not geared towards kids in the least bit. They did have a really nice pool. They have a kids club that we didn't participate in. I think this hotel is more geared towards conventions, and people with a lot of money.
