What is RSS?

RSS, otherwise known as "Really Simple Syndication," is a web-based content feed that allows you to keep track of the latest news from your favorite Web sites. To get the best parenthood articles online, you can subscribe to the Parents news feeds.

How do I set up my computer to read RSS?

There are many ways. Some Web browsers such as Firefox and Opera offer native support for RSS feeds. If you use Internet Explorer, Dogpile.com offers a free toolbar that has an RSS reader built-in.

Alternatively, you may wish to install a standalone RSS news reader application on your computer. Many of these aggregator programs are free and can be downloaded from various software portals such as Download.com.

Once you have done that, you can click on an orange "XML" button above to subscribe to one of our news feeds.

That seems complicated, is there an easier way?

Some websites, like My Yahoo! and My MSN let you place various RSS feeds into a personalized homepage so that real-time headlines are displayed from your favorite websites.

If you have a Yahoo! membership, or wish to set one up, click on one of the "My Yahoo!" icons above to add that RSS feed to your My Yahoo! page.

If you have Hotmail as your e-mail provider, or have an MSN membership, or wish to set one up, click on one of the "My MSN" icons above to add that RSS feed to your My MSN page.

How can I learn more about RSS?

For more information about using RSS feeds, we recommend you read the basic, easy-to-understand article Fine-Tuning Your Filter for Online Information from the New York Times.

Long car rides with kids can be challenging. DVD's are great but audio books help with literacy and allow for everyone in the car to enjoy the story - even the driver. But with thousand's of audio books out there, which one's are worth buying/renting/borrowing?

There is a podcast to help with that from AudioFile Magazine. It's called All Ears! and includes clips from family friendly titles: http://www.audiofilemagazine.com/allears/index.html
