Im Shawna, 32, and about to have my first, and last baby. Pregnancy is brutal and I have no idea how my hubby deals with me. I am hard for me to deal with... So- I have a great deal of admiration and a bit of envy to you lucky ones who feel 'amazing, and like preganacy is all gumdrops and lollipops'.
OK- So- what is everyones thoughts regarding vaccines for kids?
I've been reading and reading- info from both sides of the fence. I, myself, am very skeptical about injecting my precious lil munchie with the vaccines. I know they have toxic, vial ingredients and preservitives that cause a whole slew of adverse reactions. Subsequently, I do not feel that doping my lil munchie up on Tylenol until he or she is better is briilliant idea either. I also understand that the pharmactical industry is a billion dollar power house and that there is more money to be made in creating disease than curing it.
I just wanted to see if there really are perfectly healthy unvaccinated kids out there somewhere today, in 2013. I know this is an extremely touchy subject for some people, and that is the reason I am asking. I appreciate everyones opinion. Regardless of which side you're on.

I am a nurse-midwife and have a degree in Public Health. When my son was diagnosed with autism, I researched this issue very carefully. I didn't just take the CDCs word for it, I looked at most of the studies myself. I feel very comfortable that vaccines do not cause autism or any other major conditions. The preservatives that are in vaccines are in forms that excrete from the body very quickly. Chances are if you and only you did not vaccinate your kids, they would be fine. However if many kids in your community were not vaccinated, there could be an outbreak. We recently had a measles outbreak in our city. If your child got the measles as an older child, they would probably be fine, but as a younger child it could be life threatening. The other thing is that many vaccines aren't given to kids until they are a year old, but they have a low chance of getting sick before then because older kids are vaccinated. An unvaccinated child who gets sick could spread the infection to a young infant or someone else who is immunocompromised. I commend you for thinking about every chemical that goes into your child's body. There are alot of resources for raising "green" babies or having a clean environment, and there's alot you can do that's not that difficult to minimize toxic exposures to your family. Remember, even though vaccines seem frequent in the first few years, its nothing compared to food that your child eats every day! I hope this helps. You will find alot of passionate voices on both sides of this issues, and I just wanted to share what I've learned both as a professional and a mom in a hopefully unbiased way! Congratulations on your impending birth!

I am a new mom of an 8 month old. I too did alot of research on both sides however, I will say - I stuck with the facts of the medical and scientific communicty on this one. There was just too much risk to my little one with not vaccinating - There is a higher risk of serious illness and death if I did not vaccinate - the illnesses and complications that she could get resulting in not having the vaccines scared me. She has reacted very weel through three rounds so far - I have only had to give her tylenol 1 time AFTER 1 round - I never pre treated her. I did not want her to go through a bout of sickness of measles, or mumps, or any of the other diseases thata re resurfacing due to non vaccinations. Why would I put her through getting sick when I could prevent it? I would rather do everything in my power to help her than not and regret it later.
Plus, if the vaccines were so unsafe, don't you think there would be a MUCH higher rate of issues? There are BILLIONS of people who get vaccinbated all over the world. If they were that bad, we would see huge populations of children having bad reactions and serious side effects. Not just a small sampling. Anything can worng with anything but I felt safer knowing I am trying.
