What are the chances of having both of your computers go kaput at the same time? Pretty low, I’m thinking. But that is what just happened to us. Craziness!
So anyway, I’ve been unable to connect to the internet the last couple of days and therefore haven’t been able to blog. Thankfully, tonight we were able to go and get a pretty decent deal on a new laptop, so now I’m trying to figure it out. (Windows 8 is messing with my head!) I’m hoping to get back to regular blogging as the week progresses and as I can get things set up on this new computer. Thanks for bearing with me!

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. – Psalm 106:1
Happy Thanksgiving to each of you, my faithful (and probably a few not so faithful!) readers. Thanks for stopping by, for caring about what I post. Thanks too for those of you that comment on my blog and Facebook or that like and share my Facebook and Twitter posts. That always means a lot to me. I hope that today can be a good day for you.
I have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving Day. I have a husband who is a good, faithful man and a great dad. I am grateful to have just celebrated being married to my best friend for 6 years. I have two healthy, beautiful children. We have plenty to eat—more than enough, in fact—and a comfortable, warm home. We’re blessed with many friends. My husband has a good, steady job. God has been good and faithful to us this past year even in the midst of some difficult, hard-to-understand things.
And then there are the “little” things that bring me pleasure and for which I am thankful. Thing like a warm cup of homemade latte in the morning. The changing seasons and the beauty of autumn. Cozy sweaters. Long, hot showers. Neighbors getting approved for almost free hearing aids after years of struggling to hear. Reading a good book. Yes, God is good and we are blessed.
We are going to be with family for the Thanksgiving weekend and I’ll have very little internet access. I do have a few post scheduled, but my posting won’t be quite as much as normal. I’ll try to be back at things as usual on Monday!

Back in June I posted about how Facebook made some changes that makes it difficult for people to see my Facebook Page updates. According to what Facebook tells me, most of my Facebook updates are seen by only 100-200 of my 1,444 Facebook followers. Since I’m assuming you follow me on Facebook because you really want to get blog updates, I thought I’d share with you a great way that I recently discovered to make sure you don’t miss out on any Facebook posts of both your friends and pages that you follow. It’s called an Interest Page.
Amy Lynn Andrews from Blogging With Amy gives a very detailed step-by-step process on how to set up an Interest List in her post How to Make Sure You Don’t Miss Facebook Updates. With an Interest List you can easily see all the posts from any Facebook page that you follow…including friend’s pages.
I recently set up my Interest Page and was happy with how simple it was and how easy it is to get all the updates from the Facebook pages I really want to follow. Hopefully this will help some of you that have been frustrated, like I’ve been, about not being able to see all the posts on the pages I follow.

On Tuesday we got the devastating news that my brother-in-law’s mother was killed in a car accident. To make the situation even more tragic, they were out of state for their son’s wedding. (He got married yesterday, a day after his mom’s funeral.)
We really wanted to be able to support my brother-in-law, sister-in-law and their family during this time and so Thursday we flew out to Colorado to attend the funeral. The last several days have been a blur of travel, spending time with family, attending the funeral, doing a bit of sight seeing, trying to catch up on sleep and well, you get the picture. I hate when my blogging gets shoved to the back burner, but sometimes that is just the way it is. And a sudden death like this really makes you reevaluate what is important. I love blogging but more than that I love spending time with people and making memories with the ones I love. And this extended weekend has been full of that.
Please pray for the Witmer family as they face life without their mom and wife. I didn’t know Rachel well, but the little time I did spend with her a couple of weeks ago at my brother-in-law and sister-in-law’s wedding told me that she was a sweet, gracious, life-giving lady. And her funeral was beautiful testimony to her selfless, encouraging spirit. I’m so thankful for the hope of heaven and look forward to meeting Rachel there someday!
I’ll try to be back to my usual blogging again Monday or Tuesday. Thanks for your understanding!

I’m pretty suspicious that because of the money saving nature of this blog, some of you have the impression that I am some kind of superwoman who just always does things incredibly frugal. I’m also suspicious that some of you think that I never waste or blow money. That’s one of the down sides of only knowing someone online. You don’t see everything about them. And so, just to keep things real around here, I thought I’d share five un-frugal things I did in the last week- which cost me around $12 all told. (And yes, I’m sure there were more but these were the five that came to mind immediately.)
- Let 1 lb. mushrooms, 1 1/2 bunches celery, and 1 c. crushed pineapple spoil.
- Missed return date for Children’s Place shirt that didn’t fit my son.
- I had a whole 45 days to take it back but somehow never got it done.
- Missed out on doing multiple moneymaking Venus razor deals at CVS
- I was really sad because I love Venus razors. For some reason I assumed that the deal was limited to 1 per customer and it was not.
- Bought ice cream, brought it home and promptly forgot about it for 45 min. No, we aren’t fond of ice cream soup. Nor of thawed and refrozen ice cream.
- Used my dryer multiple times instead of hanging laundry out just because I didn’t feel like taking the time to do it.
Rest assured, I’m not superwoman and I never will be. And I’m okay with that.
Sometimes it’s easy to be hard on ourselves and feel like we need to do it all. But really, it’s okay. We can’t do it all and wewill mess up sometimes. I think it’s important that we extend grace and give ourselves space to not always do things perfectly- especially in this thing of trying to save money. Yes, it’s a good thing to save, but life will not end if we sometimes “waste” $12!
