Monthly Spending Summary (March)

Okay so this is rather embarrassing.  It’s the end of April and I’m just now getting my March Monthly Spending Summary posted. And I did pretty much the same thing last month.  Can you tell it’s not my favorite post to do?

Actually, I’ve been rolling around the idea of eliminating it but I haven’t been quite sure how to show everything about our grocery budget then.  I’ve been playing around with some other ideas such as including it in my last Weekly Spending post of the month but that wouldn’t always work either.  Anyhow…like you really probably cared about all that!  :)

I went majorly over budget this month.  In fact I don’t think I’ve ever gone this far over budget in the 6 1/2 years we’ve been married and have been budgeting.  But I was mostly okay with it since a lot of the money went into buying a bunch of meat that will hopefully last us several months.  And it felt really good to know that I still am not over budget for the year thanks to overages from previous months.  Now onto the somewhat boring details….oh, but let me quick just mention, did you see that I saved almost as much as I spent even though I bought all that meat?!  And actually if you would count in the rebates that I got back it would only be about $12 different.  I was pretty excited about that!

If you want to see exactly what I purchased, check the posts under My Deals for more details.

Monthly Grocery/Household Budget: $200
Total Spent: $400.44
Total Saved with Coupons: $200.25
Total Saved with Sales: $173.94
Total Saved: $374.19

Week 1: $75.41
Week 2: $96.07
Week 3: $116.16
Week 4: $85.36
Week 5: $27.44

Credit: $20.98
This was for several things: $10.00 for a Staples rebate that I did for printing paper, $2.00 for a Rite Aid Single Check Rebate (they no longer do these) and $8.00 is a credit for 2 packs of diapers that I gifted out of my stockpile.

Ending Monthly Balance: $179.46
This is the amount that I am over (yes, OVER) budget for the month.

Ending Annual Balance: -$47.52
In case you are confused, this is the amount I am under budget for the year.  I will roll this over to use in future months.  In the spring I try to get ahead as much as possible because during the summer I always buy a lot of fruits and veggies to can and freeze.
