Weekly Spending Summary (5/13-5/19)

Ack!  I spent more than I had hoped too mostly because I got out cash for fresh produce.  Hopefully I can make up for it by not spending much this week.  My favorite deals of the week were:

* 4 free bottles of Pantene shampoo
* Pampers wipes for $0.99 package making them only a bit over a penny a wipe!
* Oscar Mayer lunch meat for $1.60/lb

Total Spent: $50.58
Saved with Coupons: $46.04
Saved with Sales: $30.89
Total Saved: $76.93

CVS: $0 (money card)
Saved with Coupons: $5.99
Saved with Sales: $1.54

I returned some batteries I bought at CVS earlier (I used them in my bathroom scales and they only were good for several uses- not worth the $7 spent on them!).  The money from that return went on to a money card that I used to pay for this purchase which was a whopping $0.42!  :)

I had purchased a gift card at a discounted rate online that I used for this purchase which was $17.55.

It was a good week at Rite Aid!  The Colored Sticker Dots I used for the yard sale that we had. The Skittles were supposed to ring up for $0.50 but didn’t (would have made them free after my $0.50 coupon).  I didn’t feel like quibbling over $0.09 so I didn’t.  The Visine was a $0.24 moneymaker and the Pantene was free after coupons and UPRewards.  The Oreos?  Well, they were the cheapest I’ve seen in ages ($2.00 each after coupons) and so I just went ahead and got them.  I like to use them to make the crust for my favorite cheesecake.

Giant: $18.18
Saved with Coupons: $14.00
Saved with Sales: $8.60

Wasn’t the best week at Giant but I was still able to get some good deals.  I did have one deal backfire on me though.  I had seen that the $1.00 Oscar Mayer lunch meats (2 oz. each) were printing a $2 catalina coupon when you bought 3 of them.  So, thinking that this was a good deal I went ahead and did it twice. Then I did the math (duh, why didn’t I do that originally) and realized that I was paying basically the $2.67/lb. for this lunch meat.  Maybe not the worst price ever for good lunch meat but I try not to pay more than $2.00/lb. for meat and I know that I can easily get lunch meat for that price.  So I chalked it up as just one of those times that I goofed but then I remembered that I thought I had read somewhere that if you bought 5 of those lunch meats you got a $4 catalina coupon.  This time I did the math before I made my purchase and was happy to discover that doing it this way I would only pay $1.60/lb.  So I felt somewhat vindicated and went and did that deal one time.

  • 3 Pampers Wipes 72 ct. $1.99 each
  • 2 Kraft Mayo $2.99 each
  • 2 Weber Gourmet Burger Seasonings $2.59 total (on sale for Buy One Get One Free)
  • Gold Peak Tea $1.00
  • 3 Hidden Valley Dip/Dressing Mixes $1.25 each
  • Giant Brand Sour Cream 16 oz. $1.89
  • 11 Oscar Mayer Lunch Meats 2 oz. $1.00 each

Coupons Used:

  • Two $0.75 Pampers printable coupons (doubled to $1.00 each)
  • $0.50 Pampers coupon from manufacturer (doubled to $1.00)
  • Two $1 Weber coupons from Giant coupon book found in store
  • $0.75 Gold Peak printable coupon (doubled to $1.00)
  • $3.00 Coupon- this was a coupon that I found on the shelf at Giant a while back.  It was for free store brand sour cream when you bought 3 Hidden Valley Dip/Dressing Mixes.  Instead of just taking off the amount of the sour cream though, it automatically took off $3.00- the maximum amount of the coupon.
  • Two $2.00 Oscar Mayer catalina coupons (printed when I bought some of the Oscar Mayer lunch meats listed above)

Got Back:

  • $4 Oscar Mayer catalina coupon for purchasing 5 Oscar Mayer products (can be used on the purchase of any item)

Aldi: $9.40

  • Tortillas $0.99
  • Brown Sugar $1.49
  • Powdered Sugar $1.49
  • Bananas $0.44/lb.
  • Canola Oil $2.69
  • Salsa 24 oz. $1.49

Misc.: $24.45

$1.45 of this was for a pepper plant and 2 zucchini plants.  I’m planning to experiment with trying to grow peppers in a pot and the zucchini?  Well, I know that we’ll have it coming out our ears but I love zucchini and I’m thinking it should be a fun, easy thing to grow in the little plot of dirt by our garage.  And for plants that cheap I figured I couldn’t go wrong!

I also got cash out for fresh produce purchases.  I like to buy lettuce, mushrooms and carrots at our local farmers market.  I can find those items cheaper there than any other store and they are typically much fresher and nicer.  I also will probably use this cash to purchase some fresh strawberries and similar things at local produce stands.
