Giveaway: Purex Crystals and Jockey Sports Bra

Last year Purex came out with their innovative Purex Crystals fabric softener which is 92% natural and, unlike regular fabric softeners, is not oil based.  Traditional oil based fabric softeners are not recommended for athletic wear because the oil content hinders the moisture wicking ability of the athletic wear.  But, because Purex Crystals do not contain oil they can safely be used on all atheletic wear clothing and not hinder the moisture wicking ability at all.

I’ve used the Purex Crystals quite a bit since they were introduced last spring and have mostly liked them.  In the past I’ve had issues with splotches of fabric softener appearing on my clothes after they were washed and let me tell you, it’s an oily, difficult thing to get rid of. But since the Purex Crystals is in a crystal form and is not oil based, that has not been an issue at all!

I also really like that Purex Crystals are not in liquid form. Do you ever get tired of how liquid fabric softener gunks up in the spot where you add it to your washing machine? I do! But with Purex Crystals you have none of that because not only is it not a liquid fabric softener, you don’t even use the fabric softener dispenser but add it directly to your load of laundry.  So it’s a win-win situation in my books!

The one thing I am not crazy about is the strong scent. The scents smell great but, in my opinion, are a bit overpowering.  However I’ve found a solution. I simply cut the amount of Purex Crystals that I add to my laundry in half. My clothing is still nice and soft, has a mild scent to it and to top it off, I save money because my bottle will last twice as long!

Purex and Jockey have teamed up to give away one bottle of Purex Crystals and one Jockey Tech Terry sports bra to one of my readers so that you can see for yourself how awesome the Purex Crystals are.

White vinegar is the bomb for getting out both odors (including urine and mildew) and those ugly yellow sweat stains you can get in undershirts. A small amount added to a washload kills odors, and soaking in 1/2 water 1/2 vinegar gets rid of the stains.

I have not tried the Purex Crystals because I am afraid they (like other fabric softeners) would cause itchy skin. I hate laundry because it is never ending, BUT I do get a little giddy when I finally get a stain out that I have worked on for a while. Blood= hydrogen peroxide, but wash soon so it won’t eat a hole in the fabric or bleach the color. If you happen to wash something red and it bleeds on to something white, OxyClean Laundry in the spray bottle works wonders. I thought I had ruined a $30 tshirt for my son, but I was super excited when it all came out!

I’m getting ready to follow The Thrifty, Frugal Mom! I really don’t enjoy doing any of my laundry, but trying something different (i.e. new detergent, fabric softener, scent, etc.) makes it more fun!

Baking soda is a great kick to one’s laundry. I always wanted to try Borax in my laundry. However, one amazing trick I like is spray oil sheen to get rid of pen marks on clothing. It’s quite useful. Currently, I am using Purex Natural Elements. I am a fan thus far. I have so complaints and I only add Purex fabric softner for sensitive skin.

I have used purex laundry soap for some time now. I like it because it gets the job done and it’s easy on my budget. Havn’t tried the purex crystals but would consider using because i stand by my Purex Laundry soap! lol
As Staphanie K said Vinegar is a awesome all natural stain fighter, deoderizer and softner. I put mine in a downy ball and add a few drops of my favorite scented oil ( avaliable at Whole foods i think even Jo ann Fabrics) and pop it in with my laod. Works great! and saves money!

My laundry tip – I’ve trained my family to take their shirts, pants, and socks off without pulling them inside out, so it saves me from turning everything back to right-side-in when I’m folding clothes. Saves a lot of time!

Do you know if these are safe to use with cloth diapers?

  21. by Lydia Beiler

    On January 26, 2012 at 2:47 pm

Courtney, I wouldn’t know why not- unless you use unscented laundry things. As I mentioned these are fairly strong smelling, but if you use 1/2 the amount it’s much better in my opinion.

Courtney, last night it hit me why exactly you were asking this. I assume it’s because regular fabric softener affects absorbency of things, is that correct? Purex Crystals is advertised to be safe to use on towels (and not affect absorbency) so I’m pretty sure it should be fine to use on cloth diapers too! Hope that helps.
