If you’ve ever wanted to participate in a Twitter party but don’t know where to start, this handy guide will provide you with everything you need to know to be an educated party participant.

What are Twitter parties?

Twitter parties are conversations that happen on Twitter on a certain date and time that revolve around a hashtag. Often sponsored by companies, they serve as a way to get the word out about a product or brand message.

Why should I participate?

Twitter parties can be educational and companies often offer prizes as an incentive to participate. Prizes vary from branded swag, to gift cards, to high value items like laptops.

How do I find out about Twitter parties?

Twitter parties are hosted by individuals and companies. Kathy’s Calm to Chaos aggregates links to Twitter parties and features them in a calendar format where they are listed by date, time, and hashtag. Professional Twitter party hostess with the mostess, Amy Bair, provides a calendar of her parties on her Resourceful Mommy site.  Companies such as Microsoft host weekly parties that you can find via the #WinChat hashtag and occur every Tuesday from 3-4 pm ET. The powerhouse Clever Girls Collective social media agency offers Twitter parties as one of their services to clients and features a special party platform called CleverTweets that makes it easy to follow the party action. How do I participate?

Each Twitter party has a designated hashtag. Following the hashtag allows you to follow the conversation. To follow the hashtag, enter it into the search box on Also make sure you’re following any party hosts, co-hostesses, and the company so you don’t miss any of the action.

Do I have to RSVP?

Sometimes. The rules for Twitter parties vary, especially if prizing is involved. Some parties like #WinChat are open for anyone to jump into with no RSVPing required. Resourceful Mommy and Clever Girls Collective require party attendees to RSVP in order to be eligible to win prizes. Usually RSVPing involves filling out a form or a linky with your email address, Twitter handle, and name so you can be contacted if you win.
