Since most parents will find that they have extra candy around the house after Halloween, it’s always nice to find out about good things to do with it. To this end, I’m sharing a tip from Karen Avila, whom I featured here earlier this month:
There’s an amazing group of dentists around the country that formed a group called Halloween Candy Buy Back. Kids bring them their Halloween candy and they get $1 per pound of candy they sell to the dentist. The dentist then sends the candy to Operation Gratitude or other Military organizations. The candy is shipped overseas to the troops stationed in some of the most dangerous areas. Not only is this teaching your kids a great lesson about giving back, it doesn’t hurt that it’s saving their teeth and their waistlines! To find a participating dentist in your area, check out their website: http://www.halloweencandybuyback.com/
Thanks to Karen for alerting readers to this great idea!
