In their first public appearance since suffering the miscarriage of their twentieth child in December, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar talked about the family’s grief.
“It’s devastating, and many others have experienced very similar situations,” Michelle said Tuesday on the Today Show. “Probably the hardest part is that when a loss like this occurs people really don’t know what to say … We realize our sweet little Jubliee is with the Lord, and we will see her again someday.”
Michelle also said they would welcome more children: “We would be open to more if God saw fit to bless us with more.”
The couple, who live in Arkansas and chronicle their family’s life on the TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, visited the doctor for a routine scan at 19 weeks when the doctor was unable to find a heartbeat, and the pregnancy was pronounced a miscarriage. The Duggars named the baby girl Jubilee Shalom.
Michelle experienced a miscarriage in her second pregnancy, and says that led the couple to decide to forgo birth control and to leave the size of their family “up to God.”

After announcing early last month that they were expecting their 20th child, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar learned this week that their pregnancy has ended in a second-trimester miscarriage, PEOPLE.com is reporting. The couple, who live in Arkansas and chronicle their family’s life on the TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, had visited the doctor for a routine scan that would have told them whether they were expecting a boy of a girl. Instead, the doctor was unable to find a heartbeat, and the pregnancy was pronounced a miscarriage.
The Duggars, who are evangelical Christians, plan to learn the baby’s gender, name him or her, and have a funeral service.
From PEOPLE.com:
“I feel like my heart broke telling my children,” says Michelle. “They have all been so excited about this baby and looking forward to April coming around and having a new little one in our arms. That was the most difficult. The Lord is the giver of life and he can choose when that life is ready to go on and be with Him.”
The stars of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting previously weathered a medical ordeal with their youngest daughter, Josie, who was born in December 2009.
This was their second miscarriage; Michelle lost her baby during her second pregnancy. She was taking oral birth control at the time and cites this as one reason the couple together decided to leave the number of children they have “up to God.”

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, the Arkansas couple whose life with their 19 children and 2 grandchildren is chronicled on the TLC show 19 Kids and Counting, have announced that they are expecting number 20.
The family appeared on The Today Show to announce that she is just over three months along. MSNBC reports:
“We are so excited,” Michelle Duggar told TODAY Moms before the broadcast. Now three and a half months pregnant, the mom of 19 says she was actually surprised to discover that she’s expecting again at 45. “I was not thinking that God would give us another one, and we are just so grateful.”
Michelle had suffered from gall bladder problems the blood pressure condition called preeclampsia with her 19th child, Josie. That baby had to be delivered three and a half months prematurely in order to save Michelle’s life–now Josie is a healthy almost 2-year-old. So far, Michelle has been in good health with this new pregnancy.
The Duggars do not use birth control, because of their belief that their family planning decisions are ultimately up to God.
Their 19 children’s names are Joshua, Jana, John-David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn-Grace, and Josie.
