Royal Baby Makes First Public Appearance, No Name Revealed Yet

The world got a glimpse of the son of Prince William and Kate Middleton, as the new family left the London hospital where the boy–and future king of England–was born Monday.  The couple has not yet shared a name for the boy, though bookmakers in England reportedly favor “George.”

Posing briefly for photographs on the same spot where Princess Diana and Prince Charles first presented the newborn Prince William in 1982.  Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, visited their first grandchild at the hospital Tuesday, Prince Charles pronouncing him “marvelous.”

As they posed briefly for photographs before tucking the baby into a car seat and driving to their home at nearby Kensington Palace, Prince William told the gathered, “He has got a good pair of lungs on him, that is for sure. He is a big boy, he is quite heavy. We are still working on a name, and we will have that as soon as we can,” according to the Telegraph newspaper.  The new father also joked, ““He has got her looks thankfully,” and “He has got more hair than me, thank God.” In reference to what had been dubbed “The Great Kate Wait,” he also quipped, “I will remind him of his tardiness when he is a bit older, because I know how long you guys have been sat out here.”

He added that this time as a new family is “very special.”
