Iowa Woman Gives Birth to 13-Pound Baby Without Epidural

Forgoing both epidural anesthesia and a Cesarean section, Kendall Stewardson gave birth to 13-Lb 12-oz son Asher last week, according to news reports, setting a record for the hospital where the birth took place, but not for the state of Iowa, where a 14 Lbs., 13 oz. baby was born in 1980.

Des Moines news reports:

Baby Asher was born healthy and 9 days late. He was 23.5 inches long. His family has a history of big babies. Asher’s big brother Judah weighed 12 lbs., 1 oz. when he was born.

Both Stweardson and her husband Joshua were born weighing more than 10 Lbs.Kendall said she had no relevant medical conditions during her pregnancy. Often large babies can be traced back to gestational diabetes.

“Forgoing both epidural anesthesia and a Cesarean” as if that was the way to have a baby? Even most big babies can pass, no need to point out that she didn’t have surgery, because as it stands, the rate of Cesarean in our country is appalling. But good for her!

Hannah sometimes have a c-section is the only way. How is having a c-section appalling???? If you got in a car wreck and having a c-section was the only way to save you and your baby’s life would you refuse to have one because it’s appalling???

She didn’t say c-sections were appalling she said the rate of c-sections was appalling. Abviously when they are unavoidable that’s fine, you want a healthy baby, it is the pre-planned ones for no medical reason that are the problem.

I had a 12lb 11 oz baby naturally, without an epidural, and out of 3 births it was my fastest and easiest.
