Tummywatch Tuesday: 21 Weeks
Here I am, officially over the hump, friends. Hump. You know how sometimes words just start to look funny? Hump looks that way to me right now. Or is it always a funny word? I guess when used in relation to pregnancy, it is. I digress. My point is that even if I’m two weeks late, as I was the first go-around, I’m still past the halfway point. AKA over the h-u-m-p, for complete and utter 100 percent certainty. Woo-hoo!
I’m beyond excited that this week it started to feel as though a handful of butterflies are captured in my abdomen. Little girl’s movements! Before, I wasn’t sure. Was that the baby? My imagination? That bean burrito? Now, the source is obvious. It’s comforting, but it also puts the pressure on. It’s a short leap from, “Oh, cute little tickle,” to, “That’s right, I should now be filling my cabinets with diapers, burpcloths and brapads because a newborn will soon live here and commence crying and crapping and nursing around the clock.” Deep breath. Concentrate on enjoying that little tickle. It really is an awesome feeling.
According to Parents.com’s week-by-week babytracker, she is now the size of a carrot. Not one of those smooth orange oblong nubs you get in bulk these days, but a real, honest-to-god carrot, like they used to pull out of the ground and eat in the olden days. Tomorrow, we have our mid-point ultrasound, so we’ll get to see her carrot-sized fluttery movements real time. I just cannot wait.
Another thing that happened this week that drove reality a little closer to home: We got a double stroller. Specifically, a used Baby Trend Sit N Stand LX, which we found on Craigslist. We’d considered putting off getting one until spring, when we’ll actually need it, but then I realized that I’ll have a two-year-old AND a two-month old and therefore plenty to do besides stalk Craigslist for a clean and cheap version of the exact stroller I want within a five-minute drive. It took a good month or two to find this one. Now let’s hope that eight months from now, Roy’s down with the sit or stand options on this bugger. It’s just such a crapshoot. Then again, isn’t it all?
