Celebrity Baby Names: Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green’s Second Son

Thursday, February 20th, 2014

It’s another boy for hot starlet Megan Fox and her husband, former 90210 dude Brian Austin Green. And this time, they went in a totally different direction with the baby name—joining big brother Noah Shannon is Bodhi Ransom.

Bodhi was also picked earlier in the week by actress Teresa Palmer—she paired it with the similar Rain. Bodhi means enlightenment in Sanskrit, and it’s just barely charting in the top 1000 baby names for boys. (Though my guess is we’ll see a sharp uptick soon, if only because so many Hollywood types have picked it for their sons!)

Ransom is a word name—with kind of a negative connotation at that. It was actually a top 1000 name back in the late 19th and early 20th century, but hasn’t seen the top 1000 since the Great Depression.

The name definitely has that Hollywood vibe, which kind of sets it apart from their older son’s more classic name.

So what do you think of Bodhi Ransom? Would you consider either of those names for your son? And how do you like Noah and Bodhi together as a sib set?

Celebrity Babies: Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green’s New Son

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012

The Transformers star and former Beverly Hills 90210 heartthrob waited nearly a month to spill the news about their new son, named Noah Shannon. He was born on September 27th.

Bucking the typical celebrity penchant for choosing an offbeat name for their offspring, Megan and Brian instead went with something megapopular—the Biblical name Noah, which means restful, and is currently the fifth most popular name in the country. (Though my bet is, given their Hollywood home base, Noah may not be as typical a name there.) Shannon, an Irish place name—for a river—started out as a guy’s name, but has become more popular these days as a girls’ name (it’s dropped off the charts for boys, but it’s still at number 782 for girls—though on a steady and precipitous decline for both boys and girls).

It’s a nice name that really mirrors his father’s name, with the two-syllable first and middle names. They both have Irish components to their names, and and they both have place names as middle names.

What do you think of Brian and Megan’s baby name picks? And are you the type to pick a name without regards to popularity, or would Noah’s top 10 status turn you off to it?
