Celebrity Baby Names: Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde’s Son
Otis is an intriguing name choice. It means wealthy, and hit its peak in popularity back in the early 1900s. It hasn’t been in the top 1000 since 1995, but makes a nice alternative to more in vogue names like Lucas or Logan. The most famous guy who sported it was the legendary R&B singer Otis Redding (famous for “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” and “Try a Little Tenderness”). Actors James Marsden and Tobey Maguire chose it for their sons, making it currently popular among the A-list set.
Alexander is one of the ultraclassic boys’ names, currently in the top 10 here in the U.S. It means “defender of men.”
All in all, a fabulous baby name choice—Otis is a true classic, and hasn’t been used extensively in decades, so it has a bit of freshness to it. And Alexander flows beautifully with it.
What do you think of Otis? Is it ready to surge again in popularity—or does it feel too old-fashioned for your taste?
