Celebrity Baby Names: Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Secret Baby Name Comes Out
It’s a more offbeat choice than the classic name they chose for their daughter. Rocky just reeks of boxing, thanks to real-life fighter Rocky Marciano, and Sylvester Stallone’s gritty boxing great in five movies that sported a killer song (and made everyone want to run up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art). And of course, it’s also associated with that uberpopular cult flick, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and the buff creation of transvestite mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter, which gives the name a little bit of a rebellious vibe. Traditionally, Rocky’s a nickname for Rocco, which doesn’t mean rocky or stony, as you might guess—it’s a word that means “rest.”
It’s not a very popular name right now. After peaking in the 300-range during the late 70s and early 80s, when the Rocky movies hit their height of popularity, it’s bottomed out along the top 1000 end of the list. But maybe Sarah and Freddie’s son can help revive it.
Middle name James is one of my favorite middle names, and an uberpopular one—it currently ranks #17 for boys as a first name, and it means “supplanter.” And if little Rocky decides he isn’t cool with the constant calls of “Yo, Adrian,” he has this perfectly traditional name in reserve.
But even though it doesn’t quite “go” with the sweeter, more traditional Charlotte, it flows beautifully with their surname—Rocky Prinze is a pretty stellar name for a boy.
What do you think of Sarah and Freddie’s baby name choice? Just another offbeat celebrity choice—or a baby name worth stealing for your own?Add a Comment
