Study: Bad Baby Name = Bad News

A recent study based on European dating site eDarling found kids with unappealing names face rocky futures. The study — of nearly 12,000 people — appeared in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science, and found that people would rather be single than date someone with a bad name.

Other things your poorly named kid has to look forward to: neglect, low self-esteem, smoking and fewer educational opportunities. Name popularity was determined by a variety of experiments, and those with unfortunate names were most likely to have the traits just mentioned.

Unfortunately, since name likability varies culturally, the study doesn’t provide clues as to the most positive or negative names for your child. (The most unliked name based on the survey? The seemingly innocuous Kevin.) It does, though, send the message that an out-there name could have serious — scientific, documented — implications for your child.

What do you think? How much does society judge people based on their names? How much do you judge on name alone?

DO PARENTS REALIZE THAT THE FIRST GIFT THEY GIVE THEIR CHILD IS THEIR…..NAME. WHY WOULD A PARENT BURDEN THEIR CHILD THROUGH LIFE WITH A NAME LIKE….APPLE…..BLUE….MORROCAN….
STORM….MOON….ZAPPA…SUNDAY….. JET….THE PARENTS THAT NAMED THEIR 4 CHILDREN AFTER HITLER, ADOLF HITLER, HIS GIRLFRIEND ETC.
WHERE THE PARENTS THINKING OF THEIR CHILDREN AND THE KIDDING AND ABUSE THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH IN SCHOOL AND SOCIAL SETTINGS. MAYBE THAT’S HOW KIDS BECOME BULLIES. TH PARENTS ARE JUST BEING SELFISH AND DRAWING MORE ATTENTION TO THEMSELF! SHAME ON
    THEM :(
