Mason’s Binge Drinking Again
It started right after Mason was born. He’d nurse almost constantly. Once, when he was 6 days old, he nursed continuously for an hour and a half. My Mom, who was staying with us at the time to help out, finally looked at me and said, “He can’t possibly still be hungry. Give him to me so you can eat some dinner.” I ignored her and kept nursing.
A few days later, I called a very understanding lactation consultant to see whether this marathon-nursing was normal. “Babies can hang out there all day long if you let them,” she explained. “Try to limit his feedings to half an hour to make him a more efficient eater.”
To my disappointment, Mason and I never did get the nursing thing down. We finally switched to bottle feeding and we settled into a good routine. He became an efficient eater — but over the last couple of days, I’ve noticed that his hour-plus drinkathons are back. Instead of drinking one bottle of whole milk or water at a time he’s drinking two. And he’s still only marginally interested in food – even his favorites.
I suspect Mason’s bottle is his new best friend because he’s cutting three teeth right now; he didn’t get his first tooth until he was 10-months-old so he seems to be getting them all at once now that he’s 13-months-old. If my gums were sore and swollen I wouldn’t want to chew food either.
Despite his sore little mouth, Mason is still giggly, smiley, and apparently teaching the other kids in his daycare class how to growl. Looks like Bug is mastering the art of rolling with the punches.
Does your babe nurse/drink from the bottle more when he/she is teething? Or is there a soft food that he/she eats more during teething?Add a Comment
