The Wonder of Cheerios
Mason had never tried Cheerios until he started daycare last week. I have nothing against the stuff: When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Honey-Nut Cheerios drenched in orange juice. We’re just not big cereal people in our household, so I never thought to buy a box. Apparently I’ve been depriving my kid of something fabulous.
On Bug’s second day of daycare the kids were just beginning their pre-breakfast snack of Cheerios when I dropped Mason off. I sat him down at the table with his classmates, the teacher offered Mason his share of the cereal, and he was overjoyed.
Mommy, look, Cheerios!!!
When I dropped him off yesterday morning, Bug barely noticed my departure because his teacher was handing out the small Os. This morning, Cheerios immediately stopped Bug’s tears when he realized I was leaving, which made my departure so much easier. I was able to walk out the door happy because I knew my little boy was happy.
Mason’s enthusiasm over something so small is a great reminder to me to celebrate the little things in life. I’ve been thinking about what small thing I’m grateful for this week, and after the chilly, rainy weather we’ve had here in New York, I’d have to say it’s sunny mornings. This morning was warm and breezy, a lovely way to start the day. What about you? What small thing are you grateful for (besides your babe)?
