For years I’ve been making butter cookies at Christmas with an old twist-down cookie press of my grandmother’s that killed my hand. Sorry, Grandma, but last weekend I walked out of Bed, Bath and Beyond with an upgrade: the Wilton Pro II Ultra Cookie Gun. You just squeeze the trigger and boom—a perfectly formed cookie every time. It comes with a gazillion fun inserts, and there’s even a few that let you make teeny weeny bite-sized cookies.

How great is it that being eco-conscious is the biggest trend right now? I was even reading this week’s issue of TIME magazine, and Whoopi Goldberg nominated "the word green" for their annual Person of the Year award (which actually makes me kinda mad b/c it’s not a person… and neither is "YOU," which won last year… but it’s a lovely thought!). She said that the word is "now on the lips of little-bitty babies…" And she’s right! So here’s the latest way you can teach your little-bitty baby about being green—the brand new kids’ book, When Santa Turned Green. It’s an adorably illustrated book all about Santa’s quest to fight global warming and save the North Pole from melting. My favorite part is when Santa changes his workshop to have energy efficient lighting and wind and solar power. And, Mrs. Claus even sews him a green Santa suit to wear throughout the year (except on Christmas Eve, of course). Such a fun way to get your kids talking about the environment! Plus, $1 from the sale of each book will be donated to charitable organizations dedicated to preserving and protecting the environment. It’s also available at FAO Schwarz.

No, we’re not posting anything naughty on Goody Blog. We’re nothing but nice around here! ; )
But I’m a sucker for news clips of charming little mishaps where nobody gets hurt (of course). Throw in anybody in a costume, and I love it even more. So when I saw this video on CNN.com this morning of a jinxed Santa appearance in Texas, it made me ho, ho, ho. Hope it does the same for you.

You know what cold, dry winter air does to your complexion—imagine what it does to your baby’s delicate skin. Now that the temperature’s dropped, I’ve resumed toting around Erbaviva’s organic lip and cheek balm. Rub it on your baby’s chapped spots to heal his skin and protect it from the elements. It’s worth snagging a second tube for yourself—it’s soothed my cracked lips better than the average "adult" lip balm! (And I’m a sucker for the adorable packaging.)

I realize that it’s going to snow for real soon enough… but what kid (er, or adult with a child-like sense of wonder..) wouldn’t marvel at being able to whip up their own snow?! I might be easily amused, but I just think this is the coolest!

Our pumpkin decorating days are almost behind us—let’s move on to snow! These adorable penguins can be made with a snopals kit. Or get one to make this bear. Sooo cute.
You can buy a kit at solutions. Link thanks to rare bird finds

Now that it’s finally cooling off outside, my thoughts have turned to all things snuggly and cuddly. Obsession #1: Adorable slippers, such as Dezi’s Animules. They come in kid and adult sizes, so the whole family can match!

I haven’t decided whether I find these Face indoor shoes cute or vaguely unsettling:

Since stores have already gone nuts displaying Christmas and Hanukkah stuff (I’m convinced that one day both holidays will simply be promoted year round), why not snag these cute holiday slippers from Garnet Hill now?

I’m no fan of Crocs. They’re the licorice of shoes—you either love them or you hate them. I’ve kept my distaste to myself up til now, but then I spied these new “winterized” Crocs on The Budget Fashionista, and wow. Truly an assault on the senses. As BF so perfectly put it, “These shoes are so ugly, they’re evil. Like something created by the Dark Lord Voldemort.” I’m not going to try to top that review. Yes, I know Crocs are comfy, and kids do look cute in them, but this unholy union of the Croc and the Ugg boot is just. not. right. For anyone.
(Okay, as proof that I’m not 100% mean, I do really want the “Sidecar” boots from their upcoming You By Crocs line!)
