Taryn and I recently hit Toy Fair in New York to find out which playthings are going to be big in '09. I don't want to ruin the surprise, but I will tell you to expect lots of dragons and giraffes popping up everywhere this year. During our great-gift search, we also managed to learn some truths about ourselves–like Taryn apparently has a thing for guys made entirely out of LEGOs and I'm a master of mind control (Now if I could just figure out how to harness this power without the embarrassing headgear!) Come along with us for a sneak peek of the show.
After months and months of toy mania, it’s all come down to this. We’re finally walking our bosses through the top kid-tested toy picks. Come along for the whirlwind toy show, or check out previous episodes by clicking here.
But wait! There’s more! The toy fun doesn’t stop here. Next week, pick up the toy guide in our November issue, and come back to GoodyBlog for the start of a super-cool (and HUGE) giveaway.
In this week’s episode, Selin and I (okay, mostly Selin) schlep all of our testers’ favorite toys down to the casting room to set up for the big show with our bosses. The grunt work never ends! (For Selin)

One of the questions I get asked most often is “What does a toy test actually involve?” It’s a lot like last-minute holiday shopping at Toys ‘R’ Us: Kids swarming, toys flying left and right, and the overwhelming desire to get out with all your limbs still attached. Okay…so I’m being slightly dramatic. Slightly. See for yourself right now, or click here to watch more toy vlogs.
In this week’s episode, there’s just one thing standing between us and the toys: the wildly excessive packaging. Check out the vlog below, or get caught up with the previous installments by clicking here.
If you think selecting the best toys of the year for our big November guide is just a lot of fun and games, well, you’d be right. But it’s also lots of work, too. We’re pulling together some videos to give you a behind-the-scenes look at the toy test, from the first meetings at Toy Fair through the photo shoot of the finalists. Check out the first vlog now, and don’t forget to come back next week for another installment.
Janna and I hit the launch party for Nintendo’s Wii Fit in NYC to check out this cool video game, which measures your body mass index (warning: the BMI isn’t always accurate for little kids) and tracks your progress through several fun exercises. We got a quick work-out during lunch and still had time to come to a couple sad realizations: We’re (arguably) two-star novices and there are some things grown women shouldn’t do on camera.
Parents food stylist Karen Tack just released a “faaabulous” how-to book called Hello, Cupcake! Irresistibly Playful Creations Anyone Can Make. GoodyBloggers GoodyVloggers Taryn, Amanda K., and I crashed the recent launch party with a camera to check out the book, chat with her about the art of dessert, and learn how to make some of the cutest cupcakes ever–well, everyone’s except mine…thanks again, guys.
