Best Deals for the Week Across the Web

Wednesday, March 26th, 2014

By Susan Yoo-Lee, Editor of Savings.com

Once your kid hits kindergarten (or even preschool, in some cases), the birthday parties really start rolling around. As a parent, you could spend a small fortune on gifts for your kids’ friends alone. Instead of breaking the bank the next time little Stevie or Sally has a party, why not scoop up a bunch of gifts using this week’s deals from great places like Mattel, I See Me, Scholastic and more, and save them for when the parties roll around?

It’ll be a nice little bonus if you have some gifts leftover that you can use for your own kids for Christmas …

Happy 50th Birthday, Clifford the Big Red Dog!

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

Clifford the Big Red DogAmelia Bedelia isn’t the only beloved children’s book character turning 50 this year — Clifford the Big Red Dog, born on February 14, is also celebrating his golden years.

Created by author Norman Bridwell and published by Scholastic, Clifford was once the runt of his litter but he grew and transformed through the love of his owner, 8-year-old Emily Elizabeth.  Since 1963, over 70 Clifford books have sold 126 million copies and been published in 13 languages.

On Scholastic’s site, you can send a “Happy Birthday Clifford!” eCard, download the Clifford’s Big Birthday app ($0.99), watch a video of author Norman Bridwell talking about Clifford, and even get birthday party printables.  You can also watch cartoon episodes of Clifford the Big Red Dog on your local PBS station.

Join in on the birthday fun by making a Clifford birthday party hat!
